Today is our last day in San Francisco
Jane and I fly out on the red eye at 11:20 pm and Heather will leave us this evening to spend tonight and tomorrow with Gordon and Liya. Until she arrived on Friday she had never been in San Francisco and it has been a real gift to see the city through her eyes. The incredible hotel (thanks to Barbara) in a location that is nothing short of amazing has been such a blessing. Had we been staying out in the Richmond as originally planned, we would have spent the majority of our time on the bus. With this location, we were able to do a great walk on Friday evening down to the Ferry Building to explore (what a COOL place!) then back to the Ferry Plaza farmers' market on Saturday morning. The restaurant where we held the shower is actually attached to the hotel so all we had to do was cart everything downstairs in the elevator rather than schlepping it across town. All in all, we really lucked out and I am most appreciative of all the people who made this event possible.
As great as it has been to see everyone and enjoy the city, I think Jane and I will both be happy to be home with our babies even if my little ones are more focused on what I'm bringing them than me being home. Such is life when you have fashionable little girls. Kenny and Alec are far less acquisitive and will just be glad to see their mom.
All in all, one of the best trips ever, tsunami and all.

Today is Shower Day!
So here we are in Barbara's office on the 26th floor of One Embarcadero Center. Heather just about fainted when she saw the view from the executive conference room where we ate our bagel breakfast and wrapped the gifts. In just a bit we are going to truck a huge pile of baby loot over to the restaurant where the shower will take place then pick up cupcakes (cute!) for dessert.
Jane, Heather and I walked over to the Ferry Plaza Farmers' Market this morning and, even in March, the fruits and vegetables were enough to send me into fits of glee. Since we're going off to El and Bret's home in Tracy tomorrow I got some gorgeous artichokes (and organic lemons for Hollandaise) plus some of the most beautiful tomatoes I've seen in ages for a lovely Caprese salad. We also got targeted by opportunity and bought samosas and cilantro chutney that were made this morning. We really tried to pace ourselves, knowing that Barbara was bringing goodies from the House of Bagels but the number of samples of incredibly delicious local foods made it hard to resist.
Hopefully Jane and Heather will start sending pictures this morning. A technical glitch had us offline yesterday but today it is full steam ahead.
More later!

I AM SO EXCITED!!!!

We leave for San Francisco in less than two weeks! Jane, bless her organized little heart, has been the family gift collector and has acquired another wonderful thing that I am not going to reveal because the mother-to-be may read this (but let's just say its is very, very special). She and Barbara have really taken care of everything and I have no doubt both the trip and the shower will be a crashing success.
We'll be packing a lot into a very short trip but one of the most wonderful parts, I hope, will be getting to know our darling Heather much better. Yes, I know she's in her thirties but to me she will always be the sweet little red-headed girl who walked down the aisle with Bertums at JH's first wedding (what number is he on now? I forget...). Is it going to seem weird to share a bottle of wine and adult conversation with her? Maybe only for the first few minutes. At any rate, we meet up at the airport on Friday morning and San Francisco had better be prepared.
Another fun part of the trip will be our training walk on Saturday morning. Everyone knows that Jane and I are signed up for the 3-Day for the Cure again this year and we thought it would be a great way to kick off our training to do a walk in San Francisco on Saturday morning. Wish you all could walk with us! We discovered on our walk through DC that you might think you know a city but it looks amazingly different from the sidewalk than it does from inside a car. I'm looking forward to seeing a whole new city than we've seen before and taking tons of pictures. Hopefully I can get them on the web this time - thanks to my adorable children, all my pictures from the 3-Day somehow got gone. I'm sure it wasn't on purpose. At least I think I am.
